We've Taken to the Air in our Fight Against Covid-19
Dental offices are known for the highest levels of infection control. Covid-19 has asked even more of us. In addition to installing medical-grade air filtration systems chairside and throughout the clinic, we've also implemented "fogging" technology to Super Clean the office at the end of each day. Click here to watch Dr. Maley show our new safety measures. Click here to watch Dr. Thomas demonstrate our new fogger.

Safe Dentistry Begins with Trust

Though we started reopening for elective services in mid-May, we weren't back to full capacity until mid-July. Why stagger our comeback for two entire months?

Because doing it right takes time.

What does “doing it right” look like at Dr. Bob Maley Family Dentistry?

  • Developing a plan our team felt safe and comfortable with.

  • Practicing new safety protocols. Debriefing. Adjusting.

  • Communicating, building comfort and confidence with staff and patients.

  • Researching new levels of infection control required to deal with Covid-19 and investing in the technologies and practices to make it happen.

Now, with the arrival of our extra-oral suction units and air scrubbers, we’ve checked off the last box on our list. We are ready to welcome all patients back whenever you feel ready to return. Click here to get a tour of our new safety measures from Dr. Maley.

We are open!

We will come back stronger and safer

Reflections from Dr. Maley

Times like these often take us to new, better places.

I graduated from dental school when AIDS was just emerging as a threat. In fact, a patient of mine was the first HIV patient diagnosed at the University of Minnesota. AIDS brought in a whole new level of protections from blood-borne pathogens, just as Covid-19 will likely forever change how we protect patients and team against air-borne infections.

But keeping patients and team safe is nothing new at our office. We have always practiced the highest standards of infection control. And we have used the time since our March 16 office shutdown to take it to the next level.

  • We have installed dual HEPA air filtration systems at chairside—the site of most aerosol activity—and throughout the office. Called “air scrubbers,” these units will filter the air 5-6 times per hour.

When it is time for your next appointment, you will see some changes along with our already strict infection control protocols. For example:

  • Our office will communicate with you ahead of your appointment to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that youre offered slightly limited options for scheduling your appointment.
  • When entering the office, we will take your temperature and ask you to use hand sanitizer which we will supply.
  • You may see that our reception area will no longer offer magazines, childrens toys and other items which cannot be properly disinfected. You are encouraged to bring your own iPad, reading materials, etc.
  • We ask that you check in from your car, and you’ll be alerted when we are ready to bring you directly to the treatment area.
  • We will do our best to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the office at any one time.

Opening back up is going to be a transition. We thank you in advance for your patience as we’ve had to reschedule so many appointments. Our goal is make sure every one of our patients gets at least one preventive care visit before the end of this benefit year as well as any restorative work we’ve prescribed. And of course if you have a dental emergency, we’re here for you.

If anything has become clear during this unsettling time, it’s that we’re all in this together. My patients and my office team mean more to me than I ever realized, and I will do everything I can to keep you all healthy.  Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back in the safest way possible.

Be well!

Gratefully,

Dr. Bob Maley
